Aeby Transports is a family enterprise based in St. Ursen in the Swiss Canton of Fribourg. The company that has come into existence fifty years ago is now run by the third generation of the Aeby family. In 1956, the founder of the company, Eugen Aeby, after initially conducting transports by horse carriage, laid the corner stone of what was to become a diverse and dynamic family enterprise when buying the first Saurer lorry.

Starting from 1975, the enterprise was run by Eugen’s son, Hans-Peter Aeby, who in 1981 became the sole owner of the company. Together with his wife Eliane he successively built up the family business, that at the time consisted of two dumpers, and acquired additional vehicles for the transport of hard and chilled goods.

In 1989, Aeby Transports, now having a fleet of nine lorries, experienced another landmark when a new company headquarter including a garage, workshop, office and apartment was built. Despite the economically averse environment, in the subsequent years, Aeby Transports continued to grow; not only in terms of the number of lorries and employees but also in terms of the number of family members involved in the business. In 1995 Hans-Peter and Eliane’s eldest son Patrick joined the enterprise. Moreover, as the growing fleet required more space, in 1997 the company’s headquarter was extended by an additional car park.

In the following year, the company underwent another substantial enlargement when Aeby Transports took over the lorries and employees of the Sand & Kies Tentlingen AG. As the company acquired concrete pumps and mixers, it also grew in terms of the number of business sectors. In addition, Aeby Transports entered the heavy haulage business. Since the expansion of business activities resulted in an increase of administrative tasks, new offices in were build in 1999.

Aeby Transports continued to grow steadily in the new millennium and in 2003 a second garage was built in St. Ursen. In the subsequent years - while all business sectors kept growing substantially, particularly during the boom in the middle of the decade - the company’s fleet was constantly modernised. In this period, the enterprise witnessed the biggest increase of transport capacities in the heavy haulage sector and in the transport of construction materials.

Today, Aeby Transports includes more than forty lorries and almost as many employees who are working as drivers, office workers or mechanics. In the course of 50 years, the small enterprise founded by Eugen Aeby has become a solid and diverse transport company. In its long history, Aeby Transports has not only acquired long experience in transporting diverse goods and materials but also build up a team of qualified and reliable employees, and has established close relationships with its business partners. The reliability and quality of our services resulting from our long experience are particularly appreciated by our costumers.
